We’ve had this chalkboard wall in our kitchen for years — used it for things like counting down the days to our Greece trip (a countdown that, if we’re being honest, stayed up for months after the trip). It’s also been home to Santa countdowns, intense games of tic-tac-toe and hangman, and many grocery lists. Eventually, it just became more chalk dust than charm.
So I decided it was time for a glow-up. ✨
I swapped out the chalkboard for something cleaner, sleeker, and way more functional: a modern bulletin board made with adhesive black felt tiles and gold push pins. (Yes, just as satisfying as it sounds.)
📌 The Materials:
📌 The Process:
First things first — if you’re covering an old chalkboard like we were, give it a thorough cleaning and make sure it’s completely dry before sticking anything on. Trust me, the adhesive won’t hold if there’s leftover dust or moisture.
Once it’s prepped, it’s as easy as peel, stick, press, and repeat. I mapped out a grid, stuck the tiles directly over the chalkboard paint, and created a whole new vibe in under 30 minutes. Now we’ve got a spot to hang all the little things that make our house feel like us — fortune cookie fortunes, Polaroids the kids take of themselves and their cousins, and the constant stream of school art projects.
It looks better, works harder, and doesn’t leave a chalky mess behind. Honestly, should’ve done this forever ago.

Thinking about doing the same? You totally should. This little DIY made a huge difference.
