My Step-by-Step Method for Voluminous, Bouncy and Shiny Hair

Growing up, I was always envious of my mom’s beautiful, thick, and curly hair. Unfortunately, I didn’t inherit her amazing hair genes and was stuck with ultra-fine, stick-straight locks. For years, I tried every product and technique under the sun to achieve the voluminous, bouncy hair of my dreams, but nothing seemed to work. Recently, my mom gifted me a set of hot rollers. Excited to try them out, I researched the best products and techniques to use in conjunction with hot rollers to achieve shiny, voluminous hair. After some trial and error, I can confidently say I’ve found the perfect combination of products and tools to give me the gorgeous hair I’ve always wanted. Continue reading to see my step-by-step method for using hot rollers and a few key hair care products to create beautiful, voluminous, bouncy, and shiny hair.

To ensure my hair stays healthy and protected during the styling process, I always start by applying a hair oil that acts as a heat protectant. This particular hair oil is specially formulated to guard against temperatures up to 450 degrees, which is crucial when using hot tools like rollers or a blow dryer. This step is essential for maintaining healthy, shiny, and voluminous hair, especially when using hot styling tools.

Next, I blow-dry my hair using a 2.5″ round brush until it’s about 80% dry.

Next, I move on to the hot rollers. Focusing on the top sections of my hair, I roll them onto the hot rollers and secure them with the included hair clips. Since I’m only curling the top sections, five rollers are all I need. For the lower sections of my hair, I switch to a 2-inch curling iron, creating loose curls and spraying them with hairspray as well. This combination of hot rollers and a curling iron gives me the perfect balance of volume and definition throughout my hair.

While the hot rollers cool and my hair sets, I use this time to continue getting ready. Whether it’s applying makeup, choosing an outfit, or finishing up any other tasks, those 15 to 20 minutes are perfect for multi-tasking.

After letting the rollers cool and set for about 15 to 20 minutes, I unclip them and use a paddle brush to brush through everything creating a seamless and uniform look. To lock in the volume and hold, I finish off with a final spray of hairspray.

And here is the finished product!

I hope you find these tips and product recommendations helpful in your own hair journey. Remember, everyone’s hair is unique, so it may take some trial and error to find what works best for you.
